Often the test strips found at the paint store are too small to give a good idea of what the color would look like on an entire wall. If you are the kind of consumer that does research, I would recommend buying a small amount of paint first and trying it on a wall to be painted. Selecting the correct sheen or glossiness of a paint is also important. Interior sheens typically are: flat, eggshell, semi-gloss, and full gloss. Exterior eggshell sheen is typically called satin. Many customers select eggshell for interior walls because it is more washable than flat paint. Semi and full glosses are typically found in kitchens and bathrooms. Most residential products can be found in a latex form as opposed to oil based products. The quality and longevity of latex products has greatly increased, yet some instances such as metal doors may require commercial grade oil based products.
